Halloween Hair How-To

The weather is changing and it’s time to let your hair down. A simple styling technique is using braids and a little bit of curl to add that extra something to your look. Want to know how it’s done?

  1. Start with clean dry hair and a deep side part

  2. Heat protectant is your friend! Spray your hair with a dry thermal protectant and brush it through your hair to ensure it is safe for curling. My favorite is the AIIR Professional Shine Spray.

  3. Using a medium to large curling iron, curl your hair from the midsection to the ends. Don’t take sections larger than your curling wand. For this look, I curled the hair vertically until all pieces were wavy. Let the curls cool completely before moving on. This will help them keep shape.

  4. Next, section out your first braiding section. Keep in mind that you can do any type and as many braids as you want. Here, I chose a simple 3-strand braid. I wanted the braids to show well so I started all of my sections at the top of the head. (If you want to add more dimension to this look, add some braids starting at the nape of the neck or just above the ear.) Secure the braids with a small elastic or use hairspray to hold the ends together. I chose UNITE 365 hairspray because it is strong and flexible.

  5. For an extra spooky touch, add some spiders to the hair! I got these gem spider rings from Target. To secure them, I put the bands through different parts of the braid and used a hairpin to weave the ring into the back of the braid. To secure them to looser sections of hair (as I did on the fringe), use a bobby pin with the grooved side towards the head.
